Music From The Late Show, a compilation curated and self-released by Melbourne clubbing institution The Late Show will released later this month.

The Late Show has been operating out of Revolver Upstairs on a weekly basis for 12 years. Every Saturday, the night takes over the club's two second-floor rooms, with residents Nick Thayer, Boogs and T-Rek usually in tow. The music on the forthcoming album serves to reflect the kind of sounds that each of The Late Show's residents spin when they're in the Revolver booths, with a focus on thick basslines, upfront analogue synths and 303s. All the tracks have come from artists directly connected to the night, whether it be as residents, guest DJs or promoters. A handful of those artists will be on hand on the day of the album's release, where they'll be helping celebrate the launch from their usual Revolver Upstairs haunts.

RA's Sanjay Fernandes recently caught up with The Late Show promoter and resident DJ Ransom, who spoke about the night's history, who's involved with the release, and the reasons behind the compilation coming out:
How long has The Late Show been running for, and, after all this time, why were the circumstances right for this release?

It's been going every Saturday night for about 12 years. Revolver itself is 15 years old in 2012, and The Late Show kicked in as soon as they got their late license. We chose to do the compilation at this time because Paz agitated for a consistent enough period, whereas, for the last decade it's been a case of start a compilation, get sidetracked, start a compilation, get sidetracked. So really it's down to Paz being persistent.

Who's involved with the release? Why these guys?

Any of our residents and regular guests who produce original music–they're family and showcasing their work is good for us too. Crackpot, Inverto, Disco Harry, Booshank, Oss 3000, Planet Jumper, Paz, T-Rek and Mike Callander, DJ Crater AKA Mr Moonshine, Lewis Cancut, Mat Cant, Nick Thayer and Spinfx all have something on there.

What have you tried to do with this compilation?

Show some of the many faces of Revolver, from our rad Thai restaurant Colonel Tan's, at which we have mellow sounds, to our morning house, for which we are most well known, through to our always upfront main room sounds and to our long time running mid-tempo disco vibe which happens out back. Also, it's a good thing to not only have Melbourne's most influential DJs Boogs and Spacey Space (neither of whom is on the compilation, unfortunately) but also a deep roster of talent. This is represented on the CD, which includes one of Australia's biggest DJ exports, Nick Thayer, as well as one of the biggest sellers locally, T-Rek, alongside the next wave of Australian producers like Mat Cant, Lewis Can Cut and Mike Callender.

What do you have planned for the release party?

Everyone on the compilation is involved. Short, sharp DJ sets, some live components, good people and a bunch of exclusive copies of the CD (unavailable anywhere else for now).

01. Crackpot - Harder Than That
02. Disco Harry - Space Dust
