  • Due to unnamed health issues, Steve Reich has canceled his upcoming trip to Spain, where he was scheduled to perform in Madrid and on the opening night of Sonar in Barcelona. In a statement sent out this afternoon, Sonar announced that Reich, a 74-year-old composer from New York, was advised by his doctor to stay at home for the next few weeks. The Sonar performance will go ahead as planned, with the Spanish artist Carles Santos filling in for Reich as the bcn216 Orchestra and Synergy Vocals chorus perform both of the originally programmed pieces, "Sextet" and "Music for 18 Musicians." The performance at Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid has been canceled altogether.
