- Modeselektor, Jahcoozi and Gebruder Teichmann team up with a raft of Kenyan artists for the upcoming LP.
This July, Out Here Records will release a collection of collaborative works by Kenyan musicians and Berlin-based electronic artists, entitled BLNRB - Welcome to the Madhouse.
The release stems from a project by the Goethe Institute and German duo Gebrüder Teichmann. Beginning in 2009, artists from Berlin were flown out to Nairobi, Kenya with the goal of starting a creative dialog with local musicians. Modeselektor, Jahcoozi and the brothers Teichmann represented Berlin, along with a host of Kenyan performers, in styles ranging from hip-hop to electropop. All of the artists lived together in a townhouse equipped with two recording studios, known as the Madhouse, which quickly became a hangout for scores of local artists not officially involved in the project.
After countless jam sessions and an initial concert in Nairobi, the artists recorded their tracks over a several-week period last spring, 18 of which are collected on BLNRB. Each song features a different combination of artists, with more than 20 acts appearing on the release overeall.
