- The album marks the first in a trilogy of experimental/dub releases for Mala's Deep Medi imprint.
The third album from musician and artist Ulrich Troyer, entitled Songs for William, is due out in August.
Deep Medi Musik, Mala's respected dubstep imprint, will head down an experimental trajectory next month with its latest signing. The label that has housed productions from DMZ founding members Coki, Loefah and label-head Mala, along with Japanese producer Goth-trad and Silkie—whose City Limits Vol.2 was dropped last month—will next put out a long player made entirely from analogue equipment—played, programmed, recorded and dubbed entirely by German producer Ulrich Troyer.
Ulrich has been experimenting with electronic music for over ten years on projects ranging from movie soundtracks and dance productions to exhibitions and sound installations. Under his Uli Troyer moniker, the Vienna-based artist has put out two full-lengths on experimental Austrian label Transacoustic Research and Berlin-based Deluxe Records. According to a press release, Songs for William draws inspiration from dub pioneers like "King Tubby, Sound Dimension and Rhythm and Sound alongside the influences of Mulatu, Tony Allen and the psychedelic sounds of Selda."
The release will also be accompanied by the first chapter of a comic novel by Ulrich, called Confessions of a Stomp Box, about the adventures of a guitar effect pedal named William.
