- Early dancefloor works from Manchester's Factory Records are revived in this double disc compilation.
Strut Records will release the FAC. DANCE compilation in October.
The exhuming UK-based imprint looks next to Tony Wilson's seminal Factory Records label for its latest retrospective re-issue. Compiled by Bill Brewster—writer of 1999's Last Night A DJ Saved My Life: The History of the Disc Jockey and co-founder of the djhistory.com web portal—FAC. DANCE focuses on the Manchester trend-setter's early dance releases prior to its heady and ultimately terminal Happy Mondays et al. years.
The album exposes the number of directions initially explored by the label—notably jazz funk, British soul and even reggae via X-O-Dus. The album's only two remixes have been supplied by New Yorker Martin Kemis and gently alludes to an exchange of club culture that was happening at the time between the two cities, with many Factory artists also performing there.
FAC. DANCE will be released physically as an unmixed double CD and LP, with the digital version supporting a further three tracks.
