  • Mathew Jonson play live at four parties in the US and Canada over the next two weekends. Jonson has spent the last decade crafting long, moody pieces of minimal techno like "Decompression" and "Marionette" that have won over fans around the world. He's also one of the founders of Wagon Repair, the Vancouver-based label which has put out music from Jonson and his side projects along with the likes of Dinky, Minilogue and Deadbeat since its creation in 2004. Last summer he released his debut album Agents of Time on Wagon Repair; this summer he dropped a new 12-inch on Minus, "Learning to Fly", which RA's Jordan Rothlein praised as proof that Jonson is "on top of his game as ever." As a hardware-heavy live performer Jonson is known for intense sets with plenty of improvisation, easily extending his tracks past their already lengthy running times. Nonstop touring in Europe and elsewhere has meant that appearances in North America have been rare over the past few years. This mini-tour starts Saturday in Toronto at a Platform party with Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts. The next day Jonson will head to Miami for Summer Sunday Sessions at Treehouse. Next weekend he'll play a hometown set in Vancouver, followed by a night in New York hosted by Resolute and Mulletover, where he shares the bill with Geddes and Sonja Moonear.
