- The Greek DJ and producer has a double-disc mixed album due out next month.
Greek DJ and producer Stelios Vassiloudis will release his debut album, It Is What It Is, this November on Bedrock Records.
To date, Vassiloudis has worked mostly under the pseudonym Stel or in a variety of collaborations, such as Tannen and Wiretappeur. According to the man himself, for a long time he found the idea of making a worthy album so daunting that he avoided it altogether. "The electronic music genre is wrought with sub-par, hastily produced collections of singles strung together in LP format just as much as forward thinking artistic endeavours," he says, "so the prospect of making my own 'statement' was (and is) always a very daunting prospect."
It's safe to say that It Is What It Is is more than a series of singles strung together. The double-disc album has two distinctly different parts: the first slow and cinematic, the second more clubby. Both play out as continuous mixes. A raft of artists make vocal appearances, and German artist Sasse co-produced the album's first single, "The Z."
