  • The first acts have been announced for CTM 2012, taking place in Berlin from January 30th through February 5th. CTM bills itself as a "Festival for Adventurous Music and Related Visual Arts," which just about sums it up. The week-long series of events brings musical and multi-media performances to venues around Berlin, with an emphasis on the avant-garde. This year's participating venues include Berghain, Kater Holzig, Gretchen, Horst Krzbrg and the HAU theatre. Performances range from heady electronic producers like Morphosis and Hieroglyphic Being to ambient artists like Tim Hecker, who will perform his latest album, Ravedeath, 1972, using the church organ at Passionskirche in Kreuzberg. The program also includes a "revisitation" of Zodiak Free Arts Club, the legendary West-German club that was a breeding ground for kosmische (or Krautrock) bands like Cluster, whose recently deceased founder, Conrad Schnitzler, will be honored with a series of performances by Qluster, the group comprising Cluster member Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Onnen Bock. Other highlights include a 30th anniversary showcase for the English label Touch Music and sets by Kangding Ray, Mika Vainio and Mark Fell. Meanwhile, the conference's "Spectral" theme will be explored in a discussion series organized in collaboration with "psycho-historian" Andreas L. Hofbauer and an exhibit by Thibaut de Ruyter at the Kunstraum Kreuzberg.
