EQD, Emika, Roska and nearly 20 others feature on the Tectonic boss's first mix CD.
Pinch has mixed Fabriclive 61, due out in January.
Real name Rob Ellis, Pinch has long been a key force in Bristol's thriving bass music scene. Through his own productions and the records he releases on his label, Tectonic, he helped define the sound of dubstep, and he continues to push that sound into the genre-defying territory it exists in today. Fabriclive 61 exemplifies this style, weaving in and out of 4/4 time signatures with selections equally influenced by garage, drum & bass, techno and dub. In an interesting flourish, the mix is constructed to play out as a continuous loop on repeat:
"I also made the whole mix start and finish in the same spot—meaning that the entire DJ mix can work as a loop if you put it on repeat. I really like the idea of certain kinds of music existing in its own infinite context and setting up the mix to loop like that was playing entirely into that idea."
News of the mix comes just a week after the surprise release Pinch's collaborative album with Shackleton on Honest Jon's. It will launch the Friday before the release date in Room 2 of fabric with Pinch, Loefah, Peverelist, 2562, Distance and OM Unit, while the Hessle Audio crew take over Room 1.
