We run through some the continent's best New Year's parties.
Taken en masse, the European continent is arguably the world's strongest region for electronic music. This might make surveying all of its New Year's parties at once seem a bit like drinking from a fire hose, but we're going to give it our best shot anyway.
In Belgium, house acts Marc Romboy and Sascha Funke will be landing in Brussels for Fuse's end-of-year celebrations, while Brodinski, Gesaffelstein and Agoria do their thing across the city at K_nal for Libertine Supersport. Meanwhile, at the Brussels Event Brewery, Mark Henning shares the bill with an extensive cast of local selectors. Those in Antwerp have New Year's Day to look forward to, with tech house artists Karotte and Gregor spinning at Café d'Anvers.
In Paris, Rex Club has nabbed Romania's Livio & Roby and French acts Jennifer Cardini and Marc Antona. At Le Montecosy, Ellen Allien, Glimpse and Thomas Muller line up for Weather, while Miss Kittin heads up the cast at Social Club.
Across the channel in Dublin, classic house is in order courtesy of Todd Terry at Crystal Night Club. On New Year's Day, Blawan and Mosca bring a bit of techno and UK bass to The Twisted Pepper.
Italian clubbers have quite a selection to contend with. Up north in Milan, Marco Carola and Loco Dice will be on hand at Cocorico for the club's extensive New Year's bash. The Rebel Rave bus will be stopping in at Link, bringing with it Damian Lazarus, Clive Henry and Art Department. AlterEgo Club is a good look for January 1st, with Magda and a slew of Milan locals scheduled to man the decks. Moving south, techno will be well and truly in effect throughout Rome—Oscar Mulero spins at Sapponeria Club and Berghain's Ben Klock tops the bill at Atlantico. Ricardo Villalobos will also be touching down at Tenax for Nobody's Perfect's celebrations.
As per usual, Amsterdam's New Year's Eve calendar is thick with house and techno. The experimentally-inclined Border Community imprint will host a showcase at Melkweg, with James Holden, Nathan Fake and Apparat locked in for DJ sets, and Luke Abbott playing live. At the venerable Trouw club, Robert Hood will share the bill with Amsterdam local Patrice Baumel, while Butch, Secret Cinema and Aril Brikha do their thing at Hotel Arena. On New Year's Day the lineup at Trouw is an especially Dutch affair, with local exports Tom Trago, San Proper and Nuno dos Santos each getting behind the decks at some point. The biggest party of the day? Awakenings at Gashouder with Len Faki, Adam Beyer and Ben Sims.
When it comes to big name artists, few cities are as spoilt for choice as Barcelona. On December 31st, Resolution Festival is headed up by Carl Craig, James Zabiela and Guy Gerber. On New Year's Day, underground house fans will be pleased to know that secretsundaze will be taking over Factory Club with Chez Damier joining residents Giles Smith and James Priestley.
Switzerland has a few house-heavy options on offer, with Dinky and Shonky topping the bill at Playground in Bern. In Zurich, Guido Schneider and Yaya play for Radio Moskau at Supermarket and DJ T. plays for Jubel & Trubel at Pfingstweide.
Our clubbing guide wraps up further east in Russia. Moscow's Arma 17 have locked down one of the country's biggest New Year's events, with Cassy, Ivan Smagghe, Rhadoo, Audio Werner, Eddie C, Ark, Cabanne and more than a dozen others. That same night you can catch Heartthrob at Colors, or M.A.N.D.Y. and Azari & III at Krysha Mira. On New Year's Day in St. Petersburg, former Laid manager Dor tops the bill at Efir Club.
