Big Chill 2012 cancelled

The Eastnor Castle staple will not take place this year in its usual spot.

Big Chill has announced that they will not undertake a full-scale festival in 2012.

Organizers of the nearly two decade old event have decided to take the year off largely due to the Olympics. A statement released today states that Big Chill "looked long and hard late last year at moving the date so it didn't clash with the Olympics but the mix of the festival fans desire to keep the date and an inability to find an alternative date that works" have led to its cancellation. The statement goes on to say that they have every expectation of bringing Big Chill back in 2013, and that there exists the possibility that a smaller-scale event will go on later this year. Presumably, said event would take place at an indoor venue—not the festival's usual Eastnor Castle home, which has seen the event gradually become one of the UK's largest festivals. Past headliners have included Kanye West, The Chemical Brothers, Massive Attack, Lily Allen and countless more.

Fri, 20 Jan 2012I last went in 2006 - it had good intentions, but did it begin to flirt with corporate identities? Friends voice preferences for the Secret Garden Party or Bestival instead these days.

Thu, 19 Jan 2012gotta agree with Camparisari - went a few years back and it was OK, just. Have friends who'd been going for many, many years and they said it had lost it's charm and was just turning into another lookalike festie - ho hum

Thu, 19 Jan 2012bollox - they probably made a loss after turning it into a pop festival with jessie j r kanye and decided to can it - was there last year and it was full of knobs completely different to what it set out to be - hardly any techno , disco or ecstatic music just todays fads in electronic music and the odd smattering of good stuff programmed at shit times
