- The LA-based artist will release his debut album next month on Non Projects.
LA-based producer Justin Hopkins, AKA Rarebit, will release his next album in February on Non Projects.
Daizo is a conceptual album that explores the connection between music and genetics. It's named after Hopkins' grandfather, and is crafted as a dedication to his ancestors that lived during the Great Depression. Hopkins says the album is made up of "families of songs that share similar traits," and that "certain elements are directly sampled from other places on the album or share themes even if they are manipulated or mutated to different extents." This reflects the same "cut and paste" technique that characterised RareBit's first EP, The Destroyer. Hopkins also plays the role of conductor and composer, using live performers to add texture to the album, most notably on the percussive poly-rhythms in tracks like "Mt Weather."
