Next month, Honest Jon's will follow up 2010's Shangaan Electro Shangaan Shake .Shangaan Electro was an introduction to the world of Shangaan, a South African style of electronic music that's characterized by its simple production style, jarringly high tempos (usually around 180 BPM) and traditional vocals and lyrics. In some ways Shangaan seems totally incongruous with most of today's electronic music, which might be why it struck a chord with some DJs and producers (Pearson Sound even managed to slip a track from Shangaan Electro into Fabriclive 56 ).Lagos Shake , which payed homage to Tony Allen, these productions are not so much remixes as they are entirely new compositions which use Shangaan as a "starting point." They were were released in a series of EPs over the last year and a half, and are brought together on Shangaan Shake . The collection will be available as a double-CD package.
