Our new events series, starting out at eleven in Tokyo on April 28th, will bring together DJs for unique back-to-back performances.
Detroit DJs Mike Huckaby and Patrice Scott will kick off our new RA VS series at eleven in Tokyo on Saturday 28th April.
The overriding idea behind RA VS is to bring together DJs based on mutual respect, a musical common ground and, of course, to have some fun playing music together. Appearing behind the decks together for the first time ever, the duo will be afforded full control of the music for an extended session, exploring the links between their respective sounds and coaxing one another into areas of music they perhaps wouldn't have explored solo. The beauty of back-to-back sets is an element of the unexpected—something we hope will colour each and every RA VS party.
For our first instalment we've called upon two of Detroit's finest DJ/producers to soundtrack the main room at Tokyo's eleven: Mike Huckaby and Patrice Scott. Huckaby has been sending out deep house and techno transmissions from his Motor City base since the middle of the '90s. Remaining an underground favourite throughout much of his career, Huckaby's output found new levels of appreciation over the last few years, due in part to his work outside of DJing/production as a sound designer and teacher at the Youthville centre in Detroit. Scott, meanwhile, has been at the DJing game since the '80s but entered into the wider electronic music conscious around the mid-'00s with the inception of his Sistrum Recordings imprint. He's since become known as one of the most consistent deep house producers not only in Detroit, but across the entire scene.
So there you have it: two seasoned Detroit artists, with nearly 50 years of DJing experience between them, playing back-to-back for the entire night at one of Japan's best clubs.
And although we're unable to announce specifics at this stage, we can tell you that we've lined up further RA VS dates for the coming months, with parties at BeCool in Barcelona during Sonar, and a hook-up with Technique & Asylum for the Garden Party at The Faversham in Leeds on June 3rd.
