- Eric San's latest album will hit stores in September.
12 Bit Blues, the latest full-length from Canadian turntablist Kid Koala, will see release through Ninja Tune later this year.
12 Bit Blues is based on a rather intriguing premise: as a child Eric San lusted after the E-mu SP-1200 sampler, at the time the staple hip-hop beat creation machine, but was never able to afford one ("he worked out he would have to deliver around eight million newspapers to buy one" says the press release). Recently San acquired the machine and set about figuring out what he could wring out of its moribund technology. His investigation led him to the blues, a genre built on stripping back music to its fundamentals. Inspired, San then proceeded to record the skeletal tracks for the album live using the SP-1200 and a mixer, returning later to add additional material. The result is a total of 11 tracks on what will represent San's fifth full-length for Ninja Tune.
