  • Novation has announced details of a brand new synth, the MiniNova. Appearing similar in scope to Korg's much-loved microKORG, the MiniNova is a compact 37-key synth that also sports a distinctive gooseneck mic. The MiniNova's synth and sound effects engine has been lifted from Novation's UltraNova and features three oscillators and up to five effects. Two filters (there is a dedicated filter cut-off knob) six envelopes, three LFOs and 36 different wavetables make up its sound sculpting and modulation options. The MiniNova ships with 256 preset sounds with space for 128 user patches. You may also notice from the above image eight dedicated "animate" buttons which "let you apply up to eight deeply expressive modulations" along with a hold button to latch animations. Also included is an arpeggiator and something called VocalTune, a new real-time effect which allows users to tune their voice to the note being played. The MiniNova connects to a computer via USB and includes a software plug-in for managing your patches. See the full-throttled video below for a demonstration of the MiniNova in action.
Novation will release the MiniNova in October 2012 at a suggested retail price of $499.99.
