- Entitled And IV (Inertia), the German artist's next LP is due out on October 1st.
German multimedia artist Grischa Lichtenberger is ready to release his debut album for Berlin avant-garde institution Raster-Noton.
The name of the record is And IV [Inertia], which reflects Lichtenberger's cerebral approach to making records. His first appearance on Raster Noton was Treibgut, a glitchy EP that formed part of a collection of works (including installations, videos and paintings) inspired by the River Rhine. The new LP is an equally lofty meditation on a setting—in this case, Berlin. He explains it this way:
"The title And IV (Inertia) refers to a fictionalized successor of the Baksan neutrino telescope in the Caucasus region. At first, it has been an idea for a novel, based on the consideration that it is impossible to deal with the topic of a lebensraum like Berlin without being hit by stylization—so I had to experiment with strategies of fiction." More succinctly, he says the goal of both releases was "to define aspects of legitimation for an artistic work in engagement with the concreteness of one’s living situation."
And IV [Inertia] uses finely processed field recordings of the artist's environment as source material, paired with "digital sound data" and sculpted into lurching beats and glitchy textures. It's due out on October 1st.
