  • This week, Thomas Köner will head stateside to perform a live film score in Brooklyn and Boston. Köner might be best known to techno purists as one half of Porter Ricks (whose classic 1998 album Biokinetics was re-released earlier this year). But the German artist's body of work extends well past that, as evidenced by a wide range of internationally acclaimed solo LPs, installation pieces, and film soundtracks produced over the last two decades. This week's very rare pair of stateside appearances will see Köner unveil his brand-new soundtrack for Das alte Gesetz (English: This Ancient Law), a 1923 silent film from the pioneering German director E. A. Dupont that hasn't been shown in the US since 1924. The Brooklyn Academy of Music will host the first screening and live score tomorrow night, and the second one will take place this Saturday in Boston at Suffolk University's Modern Theatre. No other US events are scheduled for Köner at the moment.
