- Escape From Chicago will showcase footwork from around the world.
Loose Squares will release a compilation called Escape From Chicago on October 29th.
The album, curated by label founder and Chicago resident Chrissy Murderbot, aims to highlight "established stars and emerging producers from just about everywhere but footwork's birthplace," i.e. Chicago. The collection stands in contrast to Planet Mu's Bangs & Works series, which has chronicled footwork specifically from the Windy City.
While many artists featured on the disc are not footwork producers per se, Escape shows them adopting the genre's hallmark tempo and style for their own versions of its sound. Some of the more recognizable acts include London trio LV (collaborating with Mumdance), Barcelona uptempo jack-of-all-trades Cardopusher, Detroit ghettotech pioneer DJ Godfather and Russian beatmaker Pixelord. Actraiser, Nickotine and a few others make up the record's list of lesser-known producers. Escape From Chicago marks the first full-length for Loose Squares, which has released EPs from Murderbot and DJ Spinn in the past.
