- The Berlin-based artist explores moody shades of hip-hop on his first LP for Exotic Pylon.
Nicolas Mercet, AKA Wermonster, is ready to release his debut album, Ghosts Move Slowly.
Mercet is a French producer who makes moody beats that fall somewhere between hip-hop and bass music. He's currently based in Berlin, and it was the atmosphere of the city that inspired the feel of his new LP. "It was winter in Berlin, there was snow and fog on the streets," he says. "It was dark, people were moving on the snow, really slowly, and I had the feeling they were like ghosts. The title of the song/album comes from that. I guess the city itself also had a strong influence on the music..."
Ghosts Move Slowly follows just a handful of past EPs and CD-R releases from Mercet. It shows him taking fewer samples from other records and recording more of his own source material than in his past work. Guest appearances from the vocalist Hannah and the London MC Infinite Livez. The album will be available digitally and in two different editions on CD (the first in a run of just 50 copies with handmade artwork by Matthieu Séry).
