- Dro Carey will self-release a full-length under his more floor-friendly alias on November 26th.
Dro Carey will release Shrapnel Maestro, an album under the alias Tuff Sherm, on November 26th.
The young Australian producer born Eugene Hector first caught ears late in 2010 with the Versus Knock EP for Trilogy Tapes, and he's since become a fixture of the label's vinyl output. (As RA's Ryan Keeling reported, founder Will Bankhead first discovered Hector through YouTube.) With Tuff Sherm releases for Opal Tapes, Reckno and Trilogy Tapes this year, Hector has carved out a more danceable sound than the abstract and bassy music he'd made as Dro Carey. As Hector tells it, he'd set out to make something with a more "jazzy" feel than the "damaged house" of the last few Tuff Sherm releases. In the end, he ended up with a sound palate of "a few rusty Rhodes sounds here and there and some acoustic percussion samples." Shrapnel Maestro will be available through Bandcamp, where Hector has also posted a handful of other self-released collections. You can preview the self-titled first track, with accompanying trippy video, on his DC Vampira Vimeo channel.
