Gilles Peterson's Worldwide Awards will take place in London on January 19th.
The event began eight years ago as a way for the former BBC Radio 1 jock and Brownswood label head to recognize his favourite music of each year and as an extension of his Worldwide Winners compilation series. As usual, the gala will take place at KOKO in Camden, and will be as much a concert as it is awards ceremony. The initial performing acts have been announced, including dubstep pioneer Mala showcasing his Mala in Cuba live act. Other names billed include British pop outfit The Invisible, Portico Quartet member Nick Mulvey, and Brazilian artist Lucas Santtana. More performers will be announced later, with the promise of rare one-off DJ sets from special artists.
