Choices. Choices. You have more than anyone else in the world to contend with each weekend in London, but on New Year's? That's when things really get tricky. Take what follows, then, as an overview of the parties that should be going off when the clocks strikes 12. If you prefer going out on New Year's Day (or, of course, are doing the double) we've got you covered there too.
We start things off with Eastern Electrics. The crew are old hands when it comes to throwing these types of events, and they've selected the Coronet Theatre this time out, with Joy Orbison and Miguel Campbell among the bookings. Hydra will throw the penultimate party in their series at a TBA space and have invited Border Community to provide the soundtrack. James Holden, Nathan Fake and Redshape are down for this one. Urban Nerds at The Sidings Warehouse should provide a more frenetic alternative to the house and techno going on elsewhere in the city, with Redlight, Breach and Marcus Nasty representing three of nearly 30 DJs lined up.
Extended sets is the theme for Trouble Vision and Tief's Corsica Studios takeover: John Talabot, Move D and Bicep have all been given three hours to stretch out. Regulate go head-to-head with Swamp 81 at Lightbox, where techno with a twist of bass should be the order of the day, courtesy of Loefah, Boddika, Pinch and Zed Bias. More straight-up interpretations of the genre can be found at Beat Dimensions. They've got Blawan, Mike Dehnert and Cosmin TRG heading to an East London warehouse. Julio Bashmore and Jackmaster should keep things nice and fun at Dollop's party, while Andrew Weatherall and Heidi guest at Krankbrothers.
If you're in Brixton on the 31st, Slide & Get Diverted is a solid option, as the always eclectic Todd Terje headlines at Brixton Clubhouse. Dennis Ferrer leads the charge for Defected In the House at Electric Brixton, flanked by Deetron, Noir and Simon Dunmore among others. Peckham's Bussey Building will host Secretsundaze, where you can catch Andres, Martyn, Trevino and Amir Alexander. Four Tet, Steffi and Robert Hood are the highlights at fabric, or if you fancy some drum & bass we'd recommend Critical Sound's extravaganza featuring Kasra, Rockwell and Cyantific.
New Year's Day is also looking inevitably lively. Hot Creations head to Pulse for the second year in a row, with Dixon and MK joining Lee Foss and Jamie Jones. Circo Loco should be along similar sonic lines over at Brixton Academy; Tania Vulcano, Seth Troxler and Maceo Plex are all signed up. The Hydra will be doing the double as they stage a three room soirée at a TBA location with Shed, Levon Vincent, Will Saul and ton of others kicking on into the next day. And Nofitstate will resume NYD service and have asked Tale Of Us, Ame and Maxxi Soundsystem to help them do so.
