- The Maurice Fulton-fronted project will release a second album at the end of this month.
Maurice Fulton's Syclops project will release its second album, A Blink Of An Eye, at the end of January.
Syclops is ostensibly the work of the Sheffield-based Fulton and three Finnish jazz-funk musicians, Sven Kortehisto, Hann Sarkari, and Jukka Kantonen, although it seems more probable that it is in fact a solo project. After two 12-inch releases for Tirk, Syclops appeared on DFA with the memorable Where's Jason's K 12-inch in January 2008, which was followed by a full length album, I've Got My Eye On You, released later the same year.
Since then the Syclops project has remained dormant, although Fulton has continued to sporadically put out material on his own BubbleTease Communications imprint. Much of that output—including last year's Umbeya album from Sheffield-based Tanzanian singer Mim Suleiman produced by Fulton—has flown under the radar due in part to BubbleTease's digital-only policy. A Blink Of An Eye, however, will be jointly released on BubbleTease and Gerd Janson's Running Back imprint, with Janson confirming that his label will take care of a vinyl and CD release.
