Kompakt will release Kompakt 20 Jahre Kollektion in March.
The double CD compilation will be released almost exactly 20 years after the label's record shop first opened its doors at Gladbacher Straße 36 in Cologne. Under the stewardship of Michael Mayer and Wolfgang Voigt , Kompakt has since developed into a formidable empire encompassing a record label and distribution wing, with a back catalogue spanning around 500 releases.
Kompakt 20 Jahre Kollektion will be the first in a series of compilations, and the tracklist features a range of well-known material, back catalogue oddities and newer tracks from label stalwarts Matias Aguayo , Justus Kohncke , The Field , Superpitcher , John Tejada , Gui Boratto and Mayer, among others. The compilation forms part of a year of 20th anniversary celebrations that will also see a European tour, several artist albums and a short documentary. Kompakt also released its latest downtempo collection, Pop Ambient 2013 , last month.
