The daytime portion of the Barcelona festival will move to a new home at Fira Montjuïc this year.
Sónar organisers have announced a new venue for this year's daytime events in Barcelona.
In 2013, Sónar by Day will take place at Fira Montjuïc in Plaça d’Espanya for the first time, after 19 years at the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB), the Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA) and surrounding grounds. In keeping with previous years, the new venue will play host to four stages—SonarVillage by Estrella Damm, SonarHall, SonarDôme and SonarComplex—although each venue will have an increased capacity.
Festival organisers today released a statement in which they said the new venue would "rejuvenate" the daytime festivities. "This change reaffirms the festival’s pioneer personality and redesigns the spaces of Sónar by Day," it said. "The new Sónar by Day is significantly nearer [to] Sónar by Night, which is still at its usual venue in the Fira Gran Via area in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat... The distance between both venues with the Sónar buses is only 10 minutes."
Organisers also announced a slew of new acts to perform at this year's event, with Derrick May, Matthew Herbert, Laurent Garnier, Major Lazer, Justice, Raime, TNGHT and Seth Troxler added to a bill that already included Kraftwerk, Pet Shop Boys and Skrillex among others, with more names still to be announced. For an idea of what to expect from the new venue, Sónar has put together a short video which you can view below.
The 2013 Sónar festival will take place in Barcelona from June 13th through 15th. Tickets are available here on RA.
