  • The UNTITLED crew will reunite in Detroit for a tenth anniversary party at Tangent Gallery Ballroom this Friday, March 1st. UNTITLED was launched by local promoter Jonny O in early 2003 at The Shelter. It brought together a collection of resident selectors that were relatively unknown at the time: Matthew Dear, Derek Plaslaiko, Mike Servito and Tadd Mullinix. The weekly party was well known to clued-in clubbers for its Detroit-centric music policy as well as its atmosphere of voyeuristic glamor, though it came to an end because of poor attendance. As Plaslaiko explains, "There were seriously nights that had five people at it." These days, however, the residents each enjoy a much higher profile. Dear is widely loved both for his sleek techno tracks and experimental pop LPs, Plaslaiko and Servito are residents at New York's acclaimed series The Bunker (and Plaslaiko, now based in Berlin, is a regular behind the decks at parties in that city), and Mullinix continues to put out well-received records under the name James T. Cotton. Friday's tenth anniversary event, UX, will bring together all four of those UNTITLED DJs. Not unexpectedly, the party's guidelines are "black tie optional, bad behavior mandatory." For a blast from the past, you can listen to this ten year-old mix from Plaslaiko, "Untitled as of Now," to get ready for the weekend.
