Veteran Sydney DJ and Bang Gang member Adrian Thomas has passed away.
Sydney jock Adrian Thomas AKA Ajax has passed away on his 42nd birthday following a traffic accident yesterday in Melbourne.
A founding member of the notorious Bang Gang DJs crew, Ajax was an instrumental figure in the Australian electro house scene around the mid-'00s. The group's weekly nights at Kings Cross club Moulin Rouge, which then relocated to Club 77, were legendary among Sydney clubbers and acted as a gateway for many young fans to the underground dance scene, while their mixtapes, podcasts and compilations attracted an international following. Ajax was a revered solo DJ too, taking out the top spot in the national InTheMix top 50 poll in 2006 and 2007, as well as earning street press publication 3D World's DJ of the Year award three times. Taking a step back from the decks, he founded his Sweat It Out! imprint in 2008, which has gone on to release music from local and overseas talent like Yolanda Be Cool, Oh Snap! and Edu K.
Our thoughts are with Adrian's family and friends at this time. He was a valued and respected member of the Australian dance community and will be missed.
