- The iconic label has enlisted Cologne-based multi-instrumentalist Gregor Schwellenbach to reimagine 20 Kompakt classics as chamber music.
Kompakt is releasing an album of classical reworks of tracks from their back catalog as part of their ongoing 20th anniversary celebration.
They've enlisted Gregor Schwellenbach, a Cologne-based composer and multi-instrumentalist, to create chamber music versions of key Kompakt releases from the likes of Justus Köhncke, Gui Boratto, Michael Mayer and Studio 1. Appropriately, Gregor Schwellenbach Spielt 20 Jahre Kompakt features 20 tracks arranged by Schwellenbach and played with assists from flutist Dorothee Oberlinger, guitarist Christian Buck and harpist Jane Berthe, who are all veteran classical musicians. As the label puts it, Schwellenbach's goal was to give each cut "a new voice" while retaining "the core of the experience—the melody, the hook, the feeling" despite the vastly different presentation.
