- The American artist's first full-length for Ninja Tune will come out in September.
Full details have emerged of Machinedrum's next album, Vapor City, due out September 23rd.
The LP is the first of four albums that Berlin-based American Travis Stewart will release on Ninja Tune, as part of a deal that was announced earlier this year. (Previously, Stewart had appeared on the label remixing artists like Bonobo and Jesse Boykins III.) It's also his first full-length since the footwork-obsessed Room(s) on Planet Mu, which received a rare 5/5 rating when it was released in 2011. In the meantime he's released music on LuckyMe and collaborated with Jimmy Edgar as JETS, a project that has seen them release an EP, tour extensively and start their own Ultramajic record label.
Vapor City was apparently inspired by a metropolis Stewart imagined in a series of recurring dreams. The record is an attempt to map that city musically, with different tracks meant to reflect different areas. We don't know what the album sounds like yet, but if first single "Eyesdontlie"—which you can stream here—is any indication, it continues Stewart's exploration of higher tempos while retaining his signature sense of melody. "Eyesdontlie" will receive its own proper single release on July 29th.
