  • Rashad Becker will release an album called Traditional Music Of Notional Species Vol. I through PAN in late July. Becker is best known in dance music circles as a mastering and cutting engineer extraordinaire. He's a key figure at Berlin's Dubplates & Mastering and also runs his own studio, Clunk, putting the finishing touches on countless records across myriad genres. Though he's remained a behind-the-scenes operator for the best part of 20 years, he's also worked occasionally as a producer, most notably on two Tin Man records, from 2008 and 2009, and chipped in with a couple of remixes for Burnt Friedman's Nonplace label. Traditional Music Of Notional Species Vol. I sees Becker branch out into solo mode. The two sides of the LP are divided into "chants and dances" and "themes," with the label describing the results as "focussed non-referential electronic environments." Though the album has been produced with electronic equipment, PAN say occasional "voice-like sounds" and "cicadas" are present, "only these cicadas are made of mercury and swim through time." Appropriately, Becker also mastered and cut the record himself at D&M, while the artwork has been taken care of by PAN chief Bill Kouligas. For an idea of what to expect, you can stream "Dances III" over at PAN's SoundCloud page. Tracklist Chants & Dances: 1. Dances I 2. Dances II 3. Dances III 4. Dances IV Themes: 1. Themes I 2.
