- The vintage Chicago label will get its own two-disc compilation in September.
Jerome Derradji has compiled Bang The Box! The Lost Story Of AKA Dance Music, Chicago 1987-88.
Due for release on September 17th, Bang The Box! is the latest compilation from Derradji on Still Music, focusing on the short-lived AKA Dance Music outfit run by Matt Warren out of Chicago for a year in the 1980s. Warren founded the label in 1987 in the wake of his departure from Sunset Records, another foundational house entity run out of Chicago (and one getting its own compilation on Still Music in August).
Featuring tracks from Warren himself as well as Michael Griffin and Modern Mechanical Music, the collection seeks to spotlight both established classics as well as lost gems from AKA Dance Music's catalogue. It'll come in both double-CD and double-vinyl formats, and will also include a history of the label written by RA contributor Jacob Arnold.
