  • Serato Remote won't replace your laptop, but it does provide touchscreen control of many of the digital DJ platform's key features.

  • Serato has introduced an iPad app called Serato Remote. Though the app comes on the heels of Traktor DJ, Native Instruments' iOS version of their popular laptop DJ platform, Serato's entry into the touchscreen market takes a different approach. Rather than create a standalone DJ system for iPad, they've made an app that breaks out some of Serato's features for control on a touchscreen. Though you'll still have to have your laptop (loaded with all your music) plugged into your DJ setup, you can use the app to trigger cues, loops and samples, manipulate effects, create doubles on your turntables and load tracks. The launch of the app coincides with updates of Serato's two laptop DJing programs, DJ and Scratch Live: the former adds compatibility with a few intro-level controllers, while the latter helps integrate the software with Pioneer's flagship CD deck, the CDJ-2000nexus. The video below shows how you might utilitze Serato Remote in a turntable DJ rig:
Serato Remote is now available through the App Store for $19.99.
