  • This year's Red Bull Music Academy will take place in Tokyo from October 12th through November 14th, with applications now open to the public. The event comes hot on the heels of the academy's 14th edition, which ran for three weeks in New York last year. The window for applications opened today, with the deadline falling on March 15th. The academy was first scheduled to be held in Tokyo back in 2011, but organisers pulled out after the country was devastated by an earthquake and tsunami. Though the precise schedule for Tokyo 2014 have not yet been revealed, successful applicants can expect a mix of workshops, concerts, lectures and other events. RBMA also announced a free 30-track compilation, Various Assets: Not For Sale, which pulls together material made by participants of last year's event in New York. It features plenty of familiar names, including Thundercat, Rudi Zygadlo, Distal, Benjamin Damage, Mathew Jonson and Dâm-Funk. You can download it now over at SoundCloud. Applications to RBMA Tokyo 2014 can be made here.
