- The audiovisual duo will release their debut album on Software.
Sculpture are readying their first full-length, Membrane Pop, for release on May 12th.
Sculpture puts as much emphasis on visuals as it does on audio—British artist Dan Hayhurst handles the music, while Reuben Sutherland, an animator hailing from New Zealand, does the visual work. Their experimental sounds are formed from "tape manipulation, samples, found sounds, aleatoric and algorithmic programming," but packaged up into a surprisingly accessible and rhythmic whole. The LP will come on Oneohtrix Point Never's Software label, which recently released albums from Thug Entrancer and Huerco S.
"I'm aiming to make a coherent, adventurous electronic pop record," Hayhurst says. "I don't think experimental music has to be dark, difficult or joyless. I try to make something playful, and maybe a little absurd." Check out a video for "Polymorphic Operator" below:
