- The duo's LP for Editions Mego journeys 'through the netherworld of human extremity.'
Mika Vainio has teamed up with Arne Deforce for an album called Hephaestus on Editions Mego.
The record is named after the Greek god of fire, and track titles like "Cocytus (River Of Lamentation)" and "Elysium (Fields Of Relief)" burrow deeper into ancient mythology. The division of labor sees Deforce playing cello while Vainio takes care of "processing and electronics." It was recorded in Ghent, Belguim, in December 2011. According to the Editions Mego website, the album "couples the rich acoustics of Deforce's cello techniques with the raw expressiveness of Vainio's electronics" and takes the listener on a journey "through the netherworld of human extremity."
The record is the latest in a steady stream of output from Vainio: the past 12 months have seen collaborative albums with Joachim Nordwall and Stephen O'Malley, a new Ø album and a live Pan Sonic LP.
