  • London's Night Slugs and New York's Fade To Mind will release their first joint record soon. "Icy Lake" is a lost gem from short-lived New York duo Jeffrey Gratton and Shunji Moriwaki, AKA Dat Oven. It quickly became a favourite among both camps after Fade To Mind DJ Total Freedom found the track on YouTube, and Night Slugs founder L-Vis 1990 tracked down Gratton to get his hands on the original. Now, according to FACT, the two labels are offering the original (newly remastered in a process overseen by Gratton) and a host of new remixes as the first in a series of promised joint releases. L-Vis has whipped up two remixes himself (one subtitled "Fire Alarm"), while Total Freedom contributes another and DJ Rashad teams up with Nguzunguzu's Na for a fourth. "The extended intro, the ominous drone and the haunting vocal—it uses a different logic than most club music," L-Vis is quoted as saying on the original version. There's no exact release date yet, but the vinyl release is up for preorder now. Tracklist 01. Icy Lake (Original Arena Mix) 02. Icy Lake (L-Vis 1990 Remix) 03. Icy Lake (L-Vis 1990 Fire Alarm Mix) 04. Icy Lake (Total Freedom Remix) 05. Icy Lake (Rashad & Na Remix) Fade To Mind and Night Slugs will release Icy Lake sometime in spring 2014.
