  • Theo Parrish's Sound Signature label will hold a vinyl sidewalk sale in Detroit on May 23rd, coinciding with a house dancing competition called Universole. Both the sale and the competition are geared towards encouraging partygoers to dance. "Everyone knows there are far too many phones on the dance floor, and far too many solitary fist pumpers," says Parrish. "The association is a reminder that the DJ, the song, and the people need to move as one at the dance." The comments echo his recent talk at the London Electronic Music Event, where he lamented the phenomenon of selfies. Universole will go down ahead of this year's Movement festival. Taking place at 1515 Broadway, it will begin with a house dance workshop. That'll be followed by a contest, then a party that features Marcellus Pittman behind the decks. One of the dancers is Gehrik Mohr, who featured in the video for Parrish's latest tune "Footwork" (streaming below). Gehrik and three of his fellow dancers will be part of Parrish's upcoming live tour, which includes dates at London's Barbican and Croatia's Dimensions Festival. Parrish's new Footwork EP will be among the items on sale—the label is also promising "lots of other available titles, and some Detroit-only items as well as special merchandise."
