Theory Of Completion, a triple-vinyl release featuring original tracks and remixes from the likes of Surgeon and Marcel Dettmann, will be the label's final transmission.
UK techno veteran Ben Sims is preparing to close his long-running Theory Recordings imprint.
Theory was launched by Sims and Tony Dax in 1997, and after its fifth release, Sims took full control of the label, which has been a home for plenty of his own music as well as tracks and remixes from a wide range of artists. Its final transmission will be Theory Of Completion, a 3x12-inch pack given the landmark catalog number THEORY 050. (The label has actually issued more than fifty total records, thanks mostly to some sampler series along the way.)
The release will have eight tracks from Sims himself—which he explains "reflect both the musical progression of Theory and my productions in general"—and remixes from four fellow scene stalwarts: Marcel Dettmann, Luke Slater as Planetary Assault Systems, DVS1 and Surgeon. Sims says those artists have all been "on the remix hitlist for a long time," and they've each been enlisted for the first time on Theory to ensure the label goes out "with a bang." The triple-vinyl pack will drop on September 22nd, with a digital version due out two weeks later.
In announcing Theory's closing, Sims is full of gratitude for those who've helped support and contribute to the label over the years, and he concludes with this message: "And last but by no means least, a gigantic thank you to everyone who's bought or written about the releases, mixed them in clubs, warehouses or bedrooms, or danced their arses off to the music, it truly wouldn't have been possible without you! Much love and thank you all!"
