Charanjit Singh takes Ten Ragas To A Disco Beat on US tour

- 73-year-old acid house enigma Charanjit Singh will perform live at a string of dates in New York and Washington DC in July and August. In 2010, Dutch label Bombay Connection re-released Singh's 1982 album, Ten Ragas To A Disco Beat, which featured Indian classical songs played over the iconic loops of a Roland TR-808 and TB-303. With its unmistakable acid house basslines and rugged, drum machine rhythms—released five years prior to Phuture's "Acid Tracks"—Ten Ragas prompted some house historians to question the genre's prevailing narratives. "Ten Ragas To A Disco Beat challenges us to rewind acid's origin story to India 1982," wrote William Rauscher on RA. Propelled by the record's recent cult status, Singh is now in the midst of his first US tour, which will take him through a number of East Coast dates that span the rest of the summer. He will perform live at the Lincoln Center in Manhattan July 27th, the Body Actualized Center in Brooklyn on August 1st, MoMA PS1 in Queens on August 2nd, the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC on August 7th, and at Tropicalia in DC for an after party on the same night. This is how Singh's management describe his live show: "No laptops. Pure Roland voltage: TB-303, TR-808, and Jupiter 8." His artist page hints at "more events to be announced in the days to come."
