- Labradford members Mark Nelson and Robert Donne have teamed up with Steven Hess for an album due out in September.
Chicago experimental institution Kranky has revealed details of a three-headed collaboration, Anjou, whose self-titled album is scheduled for a September release.
Anjou brings together Mark Nelson, Robert Donne and Steven Hess, all of whom should be familiar to Kranky fans as longtime affiliates of the label. Nelson and Donne were two thirds of the ambient and post-rock oufit Labradford, active through much of the '90s and into the very early '00s; Nelson later went on to start Pan American, which Hess, a prolific percussionist, has been heavily involved in.
The album will be the first time Nelson and Donne (who appear to be leading the project) have collaborated since the last Labradford LP Fixed::Context back in 2001, though this one has been in the works for a while. Kranky describes Anjou as "the product of 20-plus years of friendship" and "the culmination of four years' writing and editing," and promises an ambitious blend of "modular synthesis, Max/MSP programming and live instrumentation" across its eight tracks.
