  • Grouper will release Ruins on October 31st. The latest album from American drone folk artist Liz Harris follows last year's The Man Who Died In His Boat, which comprised songs written at the same time as her landmark 2008 LP Dragging A Dead Deer Up A Hill. Ruins collects music that Harris wrote and recorded in Aljezur, Portugal, while on an artist's residency in 2011 (except for closer "Made Of Air," which dates back to 2004 at her mother's house). Harris would spend some time each day walking towards the beach, on a path that "wound through the ruins of several old estates and a small village," and she calls the album "a nod to that daily walk," also citing "failed structures" and "living in the remains of love." Made mostly with a four-track recorder, Harris also says that Ruins helped her process "a lot of political anger and emotional garbage." It sees her return to Kranky, the American experimental label that also released The Man Who Died In His Boat. Harris also makes an appearance on The Bug's new album Angels & Devils, singing on the track "Void," which you can stream below.
