- The Swedish sound artist will release his 2014 album as a vinyl double-pack with remixes from Ryuichi Sakamoto, Matmos and more.
Editions Mego will release COH's To Beat Or Not To Beat, a vinyl set combining his recent album To Beat with new remixes, on November 24, 2014.
COH is the longrunning running project of Russian-born Ivan Pavlov, whose initial releases on Raster-Noton arrived around the turn of the millennium. The Coil collaborator draws varied inspiration from metal, synthpop and Pan Sonic, and To Beat has Pavlov exploring rhythm-based composition the label refers to as "adventurous dance music."
As that record was only issued on CD, the label has prepared a deluxe set with some estimable remixers. Composer and Yellow Magic Orchestra member Ryuichi Sakamoto and Foetus founder JG Thirwell submit versions of album tracks, while Matmos contributes two reinterpretations of To Beat's "BECHA-KPACHA." Check out the latter's "Crunchtime Mix" below.
The Stephen O'Malley-curated Editions Mego sublabel Ideologic Organ also announced an upcoming record from Nazoranai, a "power trio" featuring Keiji Haino, O’Malley and Oren Ambarchi. The Most Painful Time Happens Only Once Has It Arrived Already..? will hit shops November 10th, 2014. The group's sound is a throwback to blown-out, psychedelic Japanese groups like High Rise, with whom Haino has collaborated in the past. You can stream a track below.
