  • John Elliott will make a rare appearance as Imaginary Softwoods in Cleveland on Monday, December 29th, to perform a live synth score for the film Zerkalo. Imaginary Softwoods is one of many synth-steeped experimental projects from Elliott, a former member of Emeralds and one half of the duo Outer Space, not to mention the boss of the well-regarded Spectrum Spools imprint. (He also played his first-ever show as Colored Mushroom and the Medicine Rocks in Cleveland a few days ago.) This gig, taking place at the Temple Theater, a community space devoted to screening rare and obscure movies, will help wind down a year in which the 2011 Imaginary Softwoods LP The Path Of Spectrolite was reissued on Archives Intérieures. It will be the last event of the season for the Temple, and it will serve as a birthday bash for the venue's programmer, Jake Griswold. Elliott will soundtrack Zerkalo, referred to in English as The Mirror, a 1975 art film from Russian director Andrei Tarkovsky. On Twitter, Elliott has promised "Spectrolite jams and new jams" for the occasion. As usual for the theater, admission is free and open to all, and a bring-your-own-beer policy will be in effect.
