  • It'll be a busy NAMM 2015 for Waldorf. The yearly trade show for music manufacturers—a bonanza for electronic music gear heads, this year especially—kicks off tomorrow in Anaheim, California. This tends to be one of the busiest periods of the year for new product announcements, and Waldorf, the respected German synth maker, has teased three new products and a plug-in bundle ahead of the show. Perhaps the most exciting is the nw1, Waldorf's first foray into the Eurorack modular synth format. It's a wavetable synth—the synthesis type the company is best known for. It can create a wavetable from any connected sound source, in addition to wavetables from Waldorf's Microwave and Wave synths, and offers travel speed, position, spectrum and more as modulation parameters. The two other new products are both for iOS. One is Nave, which brings the company's wavetable synthesis to iPad. The most notable features of the synth are the ones that draw on the touchscreen, like three-dimensional views of wavetables and the ability to edit with stretching, rotating and spectral shifting. It also features an on-board four-track recorder for making sketches. In addition, Waldorf is introducing an iOS version of their Attack drum synth at the show. A new version of Waldorf Edition, the company's plug-in synth bundle, is also new for the show. It features a software version of the PPG Wave, the desktop version of Attack and the D-Pole filter plug-in, plus an updated user interface. All of Waldorf's NAMM releases are due out in the second quarter of this year. You can get a preview of what to expect from them in the video below.
