  • Detroit's Fierce Hot Mess series is due to return to a monthly format, starting this Saturday night with a party headlined by Chicago DJ (and Smart Bar resident) Chrissy. Focused on having a "dirty good time," Fierce Hot Mess first started back in 2008 at Oslo, and these days it calls the legendary gay venue Menjo's (now known as the New Menjo's Complex) home. Last year the party hosted a couple other Windy City DJs, Steve Mizek and Jeffrey Sfire (formerly of Detroit), and this time they'll bring to town Chrissy. Chrissy, real name Christopher Shively—and who previously worked under the alias Chrissy Murderbot—is well known for his encyclopedic knowledge of dance music, not to mention his eclectic DJing and production skills. An early proponent of juke and footwork, though these days more focused on disco and house, Shively's tracks have appeared on the likes of Hypercolour and Planet Mu. He's also been behind a few wide-ranging labels himself, like The Nite Owl Diner, which this week released a new EP from Nautiluss. Taking care of the night's local support are Fierce Hot Mess residents Gin&Tronic. There will be no cover, as usual at Menjo's, and the party will be open to those 18 and over.
