  • Sun Araw will release Gazebo Effect via his own Sun Ark on June 23rd. Originally starting with chant-like, guitar-based psychedelia, Cameron Stallones' project has morphed over the years, bringing him to Jamaica to collaborate with The Congos, and as of late, experimenting with midi-guitar in a new trio formation. The three-piece includes Alex Gray, AKA D/P/I, on "computer synthesis" and Mitchell Brown helming an array of synths. Stallones controls the midi-guitar and an Ensoniq Mirage on Gazebo Effect. The text Sun Ark provides with Gazebo describes the oblique strategy of hitting a guitar with midi as such: "Gazebo Effect is a 2xLP nocturnal stroll into the depths of the garden, its upper lawns and outbuildings. The listener is advised that as these objects have been 'set growing,' their location at any given time is difficult to predict. The garden cannot be excited by the path it is entered, the angles involved being extremely precise. These factors (and other) clearly illustrate the value for oneself (and others) in the building of an observational structure: the gazebo. However, it must be understood that the presence of this structure has a transformative effect on the garden itself. In other words: the 'gazebo effect' is a music production that allows a performance to be obstructed and (thus) interpreted while it is being played." Check out the album opener, "Trellis," below.
