  • A new Arthur Russell collection called Corn is coming via Audika Records. Audika was founded in 2004 to release material from the archives of the American artist who passed away in 1992 but left behind a wealth of unreleased and unheard music. Russell was known for his work in seminal disco acts Dinosaur and Loose Joints, as well as his catalogue of haunting solo records, which often featured his signature cello playing. Corn, the first Audika LP since 2008's Love Is Overtaking Me, slots into the second category, collecting songs recorded between 1982's 24?24 Music and 1983 solo album Tower Of Meaning, according to Pitchfork. This one features Russell on cello, keyboards, drum machine and vocals, backed up by Peter Zummo and Rik Albani on horns, with extra percussion from Mustafa Ahmed. The songs here, which include several alternate versions of well-known Russell tracks like "Lucky Cloud," were originally collected by Russell onto three test pressings in 1985, while four others taken from these same sessions were released on the 2004 collection Calling Out Of Context. Take a listen to closer "Ocean Movie" below.
