- Super Heavy Solid Waste collects some of the New Jersey duo's more rhythmic recordings from 1983 through 1993.
Dark Entries is releasing a new Smersh record, Super Heavy Solid Waste, on June 16th.
Smersh was the duo of Piscataway, New Jersey musicians Mike Mangino and Chris Shepard, who amassed a catalogue of experimental, all-over-the-map electronic music spanning the late '70s through to the early '90s. The full extent of it is unknown, but their Discogs page offers a pretty good idea. The duo used Roland equipment like the SH-09, TB-303 and TR-606 to produce music that touched on industrial, EBM, early dance and techno sounds.
San Francisco label Dark Entries first plumbed the Smersh depths with 2012's Cassette Pets, which collected various recordings from 1981 through 1994. This time, Super Heavy Solid Waste has a more specific focus, gathering eight of their more rhythmic tracks from 1983 to 1993. Only one of these songs has appeared on vinyl before. Check out clips below.
