  • Sound Channel, the UK promoter behind the annual Unknown Festival, has bought a Croatian island. According to Music Week, the company wants to turn the island, located near Sibenik on the Dalmatian coast, into "the world's first curated entertainment tourist destination." They've partnered with Croatian company Gratiosus for the project. The plan is to host music festivals and other events on Obonjan from summer 2016. "We're extremely happy to have signed the contract with the city of Sibenik that enables us to operate on the Island of Obonjan," says Sound Channel's Dan Blackledge. "We've been working on this project for three years which has given us time to carefully refine our ideas. Our vision is to regenerate the destination and turn it into a truly unique concept, combining art and music, wellness, sustainable living, amazing food and drink and fun and creative accommodation, all on an idyllic island paradise." The past decade has seen Croatia become a hotspot for electronic music festivals, with many events hosted by UK promoters. In addition to Unknown Festival, there's The Garden Festival, Stop Making Sense, Dimensions Festival and SuncéBeat among others.
